Good news for Canon EOS 40D users who have been waiting for Adobe to update Lightroom and Camera Raw to support the 40D. It is now available for download from Adobe’s update site:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
I am downloading it now and going to try it out tonight

Hi, From what I can make out it looks as if the camera raw support for the 40D is only going to apply to CS3, which seems rather unfair for those of us who are happy using CS2, & don’t really want to shell out for CS3 just for that one facility. Have I got it right?
regards Rick
Hi Richard,
Yes, you are right indeed. Adobe unfortunately do not support older version of Photoshop once they have a new version out. So any version older than CS3 will not get updated.
However, there are many new features in CS3 besides new camera support though, but if you don’t need any of the new features, then I guess you are out of luck.
If you only want new RAW camera support but do not want to buy CS3, you can try Lightroom. The 1.2 update supports 40D and has all the functionality of Camera RAW in CS3 plus more. Lightroom also shares the same RAW conversion engine with Camera RAW.
I know that the update is used well on Elements 5.0 (i use it).
