I just came back from Macau yesterday. I have not been to Macau for at least 3 years and it was was first visit there since all the new Vegas style casino resorts were built. I took over 25G during the 2 days trip. While going through the photos, I am still amazed by the high ISO capability of the 5D Mark II. Here is just one shot of The Venetian Macau at night taken hand held at ISO2000. The RAW file was converted to TIFF with Capture One Pro. No noise reduction was applied during post-processiong in Photoshop.

Wow…to be able to get this picture handheld at such a high ISO is incredible….looks like I will have to get a 5D Mark II
Hi Julius,
Yes, the 5D II high ISO is amazing and I am sure you’ll love it. Your wife won’t be able to tell the difference between your 5D and 5D Mark II anyway
Brilliant idea….hope to see you in Macao again soon or in HKG when I make it over.
Took your advise and traded in my 5D for the 5D Mark II…now I have to go to HKG one day after I come back from Egypt and Istanbul and you can show me what else this baby can do…I’m buying the coffee.
Hi Julius,
Congrats on the new camera! Take care when you go to Cairo, just heard about new bombing there. Do call me when you come to Hong Kong!
Very nice. I like the wide dynamic range.

Roland,
Cairo pictures with the 5DII all hand held even at night at 3200 ISO. I’m glad I bought it as per your advise.
I’ll upload pictures of Istanbul in a few days.
Regards,
Julius
Hi Julius,
Glad you enjoyed using the 5D Mark II. When will you be coming to Hong Kong?
I’m going to be in HKG this Wednesday on calls….let me know if you have time for coffee in the afternoon.
Hi Julius,
I’ll still be working Wed afternoon. Will you be free for drink after office hour or dinner, or will you have to rush back to Macau?
Have to head back at 5pm for a dinner engagement….I’ll catch up with you on my next visit.
what’s the benefit of converting to TIFF from RAW?
Hi Zach,
I usually convert RAW into uncompressed 16-bit TIFF files for processing in Photoshop. JPEG files are 8-bit, and have “lossy” compression, and obviously the uncompressed TIFF files are not “lossy” and retain the maximum amount of information.
Whatever processing you do in Photoshop is going to cause degradation to the image quality, so it is theoretically best to start off with the maximum amount of quality before any processing.
